The Massachusetts Advanced Health Care Proxy or sometimes called Medical Power Of Attorney will provide a principal with the ability to choose the type of health care they receive if medical situations occur which mean they are no longer able to advise on these decisions, situations such as unconsciousness or coma and which extend as far as decisions regarding ending of the principals life. This document is is in accordance to the US statutes §§ 1 – 17 and requires 2 witnesses.The Massachusetts advanced health Care Proxy was designed to also provide a patient with the option to select another person known as an`Agent` to have authority over their health care treatment should they no longer be able to themselves. The document is invalid in the event of the patient being found to be pregnant. Massachusetts does not recognize a living will. Rather, they instruct all citizens to create what is known as a ‘health care proxy’ or better known as a ‘medical power of attorney’.
